Save the Koalas

Ever since the 2020 Australian bushfires, our beautiful koalas are becoming more and more close to extinction.

Their struggle to make full recovery from the natural disaster continues as the predicted date for koala’s extinction is 2050.

Australia's Koalas Are 'Sliding Towards Extinction' | WIRED

An estimate of at least 61, 353 koalas were affected during the fires, which is around 14, 736 koalas in every state. Additionally 24% of the koala’s natural habitat were ruined.

This personally makes me very upset as only a few months before the fires hit, I visited Kangaroo Island where there were countless of koalas you could see each and every way you looked. They were beautiful, they just stared at you and smiled as they relaxed on the eucalyptus tree. So innocent. And to think they’re gone makes my heart literally break. Unfortunately, Kangaroo Island was the area most affected by the fires where around half of the entire island was burned. That is a predicted 41,230 koalas that were killed.

Below is a picture I took myself while on my visit at Kangaroo Island, basically this sums up what I was trying to explain above. Just imagining this cute little creature gone, is really difficult. This was such a special moment to capture and will never take advantage of the opportunity to be so close to these spectacular species.

Anyway, the point is, it is TIME for us as a nation, an Australian society to make a difference and not let the extinction of our stunning koalas a reality. Koalas are an icon of Australia, therefore to observe them decline in such large numbers is extremely upsetting for our culture.
