A media niche are groups of individuals who have the same interests. I know I am part of many niches, such as someone who loves tennis, astrology, and baking.
They are only a tiny number of niches I am part of.
I decided to focus my media niche on something I personally love and enjoy, and can relate to.
My media niche for my digital artefact will most likely be targeting teenagers and young adults who are either in high school or beginners at university who love astrology.

For this particular niche, it is known that these specific groups of people enjoy their time utilising social platforms such as Tik Tok and Instagram. So ultimately, I will most likely use Tik Tok and Instagram for my digital artefact, so I have a better chance at attracting my chosen niche.
This niche is widely known, and I believe that ever since Tik Tok existed, it has clearly shown the public how young adults and teenagers are particularly drawn to that platform. Although Tik Tok is utilised by various niches, it is noticeably evident that its usage is mainly dominated by young adults and teenagers.
I personally can relate to this niche as I am a young adult myself, so therefore I clearly understand what this niche like and don’t like. I also personally enjoy using Tik Tok and Instagram throughout the day and believe they are the two platforms I definitely use the most on a day-to-day basis.
Also, by observing friends who are my age, they also spend a lot of their time on Tik Tok and Instagram. It is easy to pick up and observe the current trends of my chosen niche as I am part of this niche myself and immersed around these people every day.
Whenever I wake up in the morning, I find myself scrolling on Instagram and Tik Tok. It could be any time of the day and I might be with friends or even alone and decide to make a Tik Tok just because. The majority of my Tik Tok videos are on astrology and I can honestly spend hours watching them.

I know all my friends do this too because these kinds of activities are heavily discussed amongst young adults and teenagers, and we can relate with one another.
Some ethnographic research skills I could use to help find out more in my media niche is observing how this niche interact with each other and their cultural and social environments.
The type of symbols, language and shared meaning that are heavily used in their world.
In order for my Digital Artefact to successfully exploit itself on the media, I will need to utilise autoethnographic research to expand my expertise on the media niche.
The definition of auto ethnographers is, “…use personal experience to illustrate facets of cultural experience, and, in so doing, make characteristics of a culture familiar for insiders and outsiders” (Ellis et al. 2011).
Ultimately, as a person part of this media niche, I will be writing down my observations and conduct a scientific investigation of my personal experience of part of the niche.
I will also be putting myself in other people’s shoes to see how they might interpretate astrology as a media niche.
