For my Digital Artefact, I focused on something that I am personally really invested on and love spending time researching about it, which is astrology. Basically, I created a Tik Tok page where I have posted various videos that include fun things like: compatibility between the star signs, zodiac mood boards, where the zodiacs are most likely to travel, the zodiac’s 2022 predictions and more.

My aim was to provide my target audience with many videos that are entertaining, fun and enjoyable for astrology lovers like me. Particularly during this time of lockdown it gives them more gratifying things to watch whilst trying to kill time and bored.

Some issues that arose included not identifying my primary target audience early enough, however I decided I was aiming for early to late teenage kids around the ages of 14-19, as there are a lot of people within those ages that are really into astrology like me.

That is another reason why I decided to use my platform on Tik Tok, because this social media platform is extremely popular for teenage kids (my target audience.) I also used Instagram last semester for my Digital Artefact to try attract the same target audience, however that completely failed and I found it extremely difficult to try gain interaction with my posts.

Another problem I ran into was some videos not getting as much attention as what I hoped for. My videos were very fluctuant in terms of how many views each Tik Tok received. I observed that pretty much my Tik Toks I posted in the morning got the most views, then when I would post at night or in the afternoon. So ultimately, timing played a major factor for the interaction between my videos and the people. I aimed to post around 10am, whereas before I would post around 3pm which got barely any attention.

After fixing my problems, I found Tik Tok extremely reliable and a good tool to gain interaction with viewers, as long as I posted with many different hashtags.

Overall, I am proud and happy with my Digital Artefact so far, and found it an enjoyable experience in the process of making my content. I also hope to continue this afterwards to see how far my account can grow, as well as keep on uploading fun content for astrology lovers.
