For my Digital Artefact, I created a Tik Tok page that involved sharing fun video posts that are about Astrology. My thought was the popularity of Astrology has increased so I would try focus on something that is currently highly liked. Basically, I created a Tik Tok page where I have posted various videos that include fun things such as, compatibility between the star signs, zodiac mood boards, where the zodiacs are most likely to travel, the zodiac’s 2022 predictions and more.
My problem I am addressing was the amount of boredom and need for time to be killed during the time of lockdown. I can certainly say I was struggling with things to do while stuck in the house, so I though creating videos that provide a bit of fun and entertainment during lockdown may lift people’s moods.
I additionally developed this project because I am personally really into Astrology myself which I thought is vital in the creation of a Digital Artefact. Ted always pushes for people to base their Digital Artefact on something they personally enjoy.

Each one of my posts would have multiple hashtags in the comments to attract as much interaction as possible and reach out to a wide audience.
Based on my research on my chosen target audience, which is for people around the ages of 14 to 19 years old, is what made me choose to use Tik Tok for my Digital Artefact. I also found that while astrology is loved by a wide range of people, it is extremely popular for teens in particular. Tik Tok is extremely popular for people around that age, and it is vital to use the correct social platform for a successful Digital Artefact.

One big learning point I had during the creation of my Digital Artefact this semester was the difference between using Instagram to Tik Tok. The interaction with the audience on Tik Tok was a lot higher than when I used Instagram for my previous Digital Artefact in the first semester.

My previous Digital Artefact was an Instagram page that highlighted facts and cute posts of AMy previous Digital Artefact was an Instagram page that highlighted facts and cute posts of Australian Koalas, and allowed people to donate to the World Wildlife Foundation due to there being a scarce amount of Koalas nowadays as a result of the Australian bushfires and couple years ago. However, I uploaded multiple types of content on my page and by the end of it, my posts would receive very little likes and my Instagram account did not reach the number of followers I had hoped for.

Whilst, my Tik Tok page had a lot higher gain of audience interaction. I noticed the views, likes and following numbers increased a dramatic amount compared to Instagram.
First, I made a Tik Tok which I posted at around 3pm. However my video seemed to have attracted very little attention from users, which made me question if my content was really satisfying my target audience.
So the next day, I experimented and decided to post another Tik Tok video at 10am. Within minutes, I could already notice a difference as the number of views, likes and followers increased dramatically than the one I posted the day before.
The day after I posted at 10am again, and I noticed an increase of views again.
After observing this, I pretty much posted Tik Toks in the morning to get the most views, rather than when I would post at night or in the afternoon. So ultimately, timing played a major factor for the interaction between my videos and the people. I aimed to post around 10am, whereas before I would post around 3pm which got barely any attention.

The most important thing I learnt that I should have done better in this Digital Artefact is retrieving feedback from my audience. Reflecting back on what I could have improved on is definitely the feedback loop. I found that I lacked in asking what my audience wanted to see more and less of in my posts, and if I did, I may have ended up with a more successful Digital Artefact by uploading content purely on my audience’s desires.
I should have done a Tik Tok that asked for my audience to comment ideas on what they want me to post.

Other than that, this Digital Artefact was fun to create, and I learnt the importance in posting patterns. As well as, the difference in the amount of interaction you receive between Instagram and Tik Tok for an audience aged between 14 to 19 years of age.
